Burma Army provides security for transfer of precursor chemicals, say local people

A military unit in eastern Shan State well-known for its drug activities has once again been found escorting the transport of chemicals used for drug production, reported some townsmen from Mongton, opposite Chiangmai.

On 10 May, Capt. Hla Hpyu, Commander of Company 1, IB 65 of Mongton and his 25 men were witnessed by some townspeople guarding 4 trucks carrying 30 barrels of chemicals from Wanhoong, a Wa stronghold near Mongyawn in Monghsat Township back to their battalion post in Mongton.

The 50-60 liter sized barrels were filled with "acid", according to the captain, who told his drivers and soldiers to take care there wasn't any leak-out.

IB 65 post, commanded by Lt.-Col. Myint Sway, is known by the locals as a warehouse for drugs.
