Since normal relations were resumed between Burma and Thailand last October, many drug refineries had been dismantled some of which had been moved away from the border, said sources from Mongton.
Two of them plant were formerly located near Hwe Aw, 33 km from Chiangmai's Chiangdao District border, to Moengjawd, about 30 miles west.
The two plants there come under Burmese military-Wa joint venture, said a Wa source. "It was the result of the meeting in Mongton between Infantry Battalion #65 new commander, Lt-Col Myint Sway and Wa representatives on 7 October."
According to the source, the meeting was also participated by Wai Hsuehying a.k.a. Sophon Jandee, younger brother of Wei Hsuehgang and the United Wa State Army's Brigade #171 commander. Other participants were Captain Han Sein, who is responsible for transport and storage; Ja-law Bo for purchase; Yi Lin, Wa's treasurer; Chao Ching for sales; Li Shin "who samples the products" and Chu Hong, management of production, among others.
The meeting aside from readopting previous agreements between Col Myint Sway's predecessors and the local business sector, was said to have discussed "interesting items" such as improving the scent of the yaba pills and better preservation of the products.
Mongton, to Thai drug watchers, has long been a major drug producer and distributor.
