Arrested suspect in Shanghai traced to Khun Sa cronies

Yang Ah-huang aka Kyi Win, who was arrested by Shanghai police on 5 January as reported by Shanghai Daily, 21 February, had been connected to former associates of ex-Mong Tai Army (MTA) leader Khun Sa, said sources in Tachilek.

Yang has a home in Wiang Keow village near the Akha market, Hawng Leuk Tract, Tachilek township, the same village where Jiang Jia-sao, 70, former Khun Sa follower, was arrested on 26 December. Another Sai Pan Mawng, 45, was nabbed the next day.

Yang was away in Mandalay during the crackdown and made his escape via Lashio into China, where he was taken into custody nine days later.

More than 12 million amphetamine tablets were seized last month, according to Rangoon media on Monday. However, The Manager Online, 5 February, quoted Col Somsak Nilabanjerdkul, Commander of the Third Cavalry Task Force in Chiangrai saying the Burmese campaign in Tachilek was aimed at mopping up MTA remnants.
