Dam Builders Set to Begin the Final Phase

Representative from GMS Power, an offshoot of the MDX, disclosed to S.H.A.N. that it was planning to begin the final phase of its studies in Tasarng, Shan State, a project that should last for 7 months, before drawing up definite plan for the dam construction.

It was also reported that representatives of the Shan people held a conference in May and resolved to oppose the dam project.

Since news came out about the project, at least 300,000 people on both sides of the Salween in Shan State have been forced relocated, according to the human rights reports.
