Daylight robbery in Lashio
The Shan State's northern capital of Lashio, where the Northeastern Region Command is based, was rocked by news of a daring hold-up of a gold shop in broad daylight yesterday. Hawkeye reports:
The 5-gunmen, attired in camouflage fatigues, and armed with automatic rifles: 2 M-20 and 1 M-22, pulled up at the Lucky Gold shop near Cherry Department Store around 15:00 in a van. Three waited in the car outside while two climbed down to rob the shop. Altogether, the robbers got away with more than 5 kg. of gold, while two of the shopkeepers lay wounded, shot when they tried to resist.
The van with a number plate 5-Ka/6079, was later found abandoned southeast of the city.
This morning, the Military Intelligence invited representatives from the ceasefire groups to ask for their cooperation in finding the culprits. They were also instructed to leave their arms behind when they were in town.
