The following is a report by Bangkok Post or the declaration of Independence by Khun Sa, then Chairman of the Shan State Restoration Council, on 12 December 1993. A little over two years later, he surrendered under the "Tripartite" pressures applied by the Burma Army, United Wa State Army and Thailand.
The second declaration of Independence was made on 17 April by a group of Shan elders that has caused much controversy and sensation in Burma.
