Chiangmai marks World Indigenous Peoples Day
 
More than a hundred people from different ethnic groups of Thailand: Lisu,
Akha,Kachin, Dara-ang (Palaung), Lua, Hmong, Thai Yai, Mien, Karen, Lahu,
Urak Lawoi and Mokaen, who gathered at Wat Suandok temple at 08:30 today
marched under heavy security to Sarm Kasat (Three Kings Square) inside the moat.
 
"We take this opportunity to demand our rights," said a Lisu girl in Thai.
 
Their demands included the following:

  • Restore our equality and dignity
  • With no citizenship, we are only half-Thais
  • Stop human rights abuses and honor international treaties
