On 6 June, the Shan State Army invited international media to witness the burning of 1.1 million methamphetamine pills seized from a pro-Burma Army militia force 4 months earlier on the Mekong.
 
The SSA had first offered to deliver the goods to a neighboring government. However it was rejected for reasons best known to itself, said SSA chief Col Yawdserk. Hence the bonfire.
