Fire razes 13 houses, kills one

On 25 February 2008 at 3:00 pm a fire broke out at Myo Thit quarters near the airport outside the town limits and destroyed 13 houses.  A retarded man, age 44, used petroleum as the fuel and burnt his house down from outside. He then went into the house and closed the main door.  He died a few minutes later. After that, the fire spread to the neighboring houses, said the source.  
 
"One family has just moved to their new house 15 days ago because their old house was in the flood area close to Nam Lap River. It is very unfortunate that their new house has burnt down," he continued. "Triangle Commander Min Aung Hlaing later said he would provide compensation to the victims." 
 
On the same day, a major fire broke out at Yadanabon market in Mandalay from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. The second fire started at 7:00 am in Hlaing Tha Ya industrial zone in Rangoon and destroyed 200 houses of the workers.  And the third fire broke out at 3:00 pm in Pu Law, Tenasserim division. 
 
Myo Thit (New Town) quarters was built up over 10 years ago since the Burma military confiscated the local people's farms and sold them to the public in Kengtung Township.  Currently, it has about 400 households.
