Novices killed by two mysterious cutthroats

On 5 January 2008, two people who appeared to be tall and medium built, one wearing black clothing and another wearing pattern clothes, took the two novices, Wayama, 10, and Hsaw Hpee, 8, by force threatening them with a G-3 gun from the Wan Hsak Hsai Hkao monastery, 3 km North of Kali village tract in Kunhing Township. The two men then sliced off the novices’ throats and left their bodies under a big tree beside the main road from Kali to the neighboring village of Mongzang.
 
Wayama was a son of Sai Kham Herng and Nang Kar, and the Hsaw Hpee a son of Sai Kung Ma and Nang Hseng, who lived in Wan Hsak village in Kunhing Township.
 
“No one knows who the two murderers are, which group they belong to and why they wanted to kill the two novices,” one villager said. “Most people assumed that Pu Pard (men who are assigned to kill children in order to let their spirits guard a bridge in construction. There is however no reports about bridges currently under construction in the area).  But, no one investigated the matter”.
 
Two days later, the two mysterious men appeared in the Nawng Yian jungle in Kali area and on the third day they again appeared near north of Kali.
 
There are 15 monks and novices residing in the Wan Hsak monastery.
