Marcus Young, the great-grandson of William Marcus Young, who baptized the first Wa Ai Ron on 17 April 1908, was present at the occasion to bless the event, according to a Shan pastor.

The milestone event at Kengtung’s Moeng Jem quarter was witnessed by some 4,000 visitors, 350 from Lashio alone, according to a Lahu source.

This was the 4th centennial since the turn of the century marked by Shan State East’s ethnic groups who have adopted Christianity as their way of life: Lahus in 2004, Shans in 2006 and Akhas in 2007.
