Visual Points: Shan temple inauguration at Bodh Gaya

6-13 February was the period when the new Shan temple in India’s Bodh Gaya, where Prince Sidhartha attained enlightment and became the Buddha, as inaugurated with pomp and ceremony.

The construction of the temple started in 1999. Due to shortage of funds, it had taken nearly 9 years to complete.
 
The event was graced by 1,500 monks and laypeople coming from several countries: Burma, Thailand, UK, Sri Lanka, Korea, Singapore and Australia.
