SLORC EXTORTS MONEY FOR
SLORC EXTORTS MONEY FOR "HORSES"
On Novmber 20 1995, Captain Nyan Lwin, a company commander from SLORC No.520 LIB, ordered Nong Lome village (about 40 houses), Tong Zu village (50 Houses), Hui Zoi (50 houses), Wan Kyong (20 houses), Pung Zun (20 houses), Nar Won (10 houses), in Murng Pan township to provide horses for the army. Each village had to provide one horse or enough money to buy one within 10 days.
However, after that, No.332 LIB also ordered the same 6 villages to do the same. Thus, each village had to provide money for 2 horses (20,000-50,000 k/- for one horse). The SLORC told the villagers that the army wold use these horses to carry their things instead of forcing people to serve as porters. But even after they had received the money, they still asked for porters and no horse was seen to be bought by them.
The villagers of Hui Zoi said that because of the disturbance created by the SLORC, two religious ceremonies all prepared and scheduled to be held in October, had to be cancelled.
