RELOCATED VILLAGERS BRIBE SLORC TO RETURN HOME

During the month of August, Captain Nyan Lwin form SLORC No.520 LIB came and ordered the villagers of Tong Zu and Hui Zoi to move into town or nearby villages such as Ho Phai, Nong Hee an Nyong Kham, where some had their relatives. The villagers, totalling over 70 households, had to move within 7 days, after which anyone found on the road, in the woods or even in the farms and fields would be shot on sight.

The Burmese soldiers then moved away, leaving only 7 households from both villages to look after the monks and the monastery (or to gather information for them).

The villagers, unwilling to lose their houses, cattle, farms, fields and other property, collected money among themselves to bribe the army. The money 200,000 K was sent directly to Lt. Col. Kyi Lin, commander of No.520 LIB. It is said that Lt. Lao Lu, an official of MTA's administrative body, contributed 100,000 K to the sum. Captain Sai Lone and Maj Ong Myint of the MTA also contributed money.

About half a month later an order came that all the villagers who had moved to town had to go back to their respective original villages.
