Wa families Resettling Along the Thai Border

The ceasefire Wa group's soldiers stationed along the Thai border opposite Chiangmai and Chiangrai Provinces are bringing down their families from he north to resettle in Mongton and Mongsart townships of Eastern Shan State, said Maihoong, S.H.A.N.'s source at the border.

On 8 September, 12 families numbering 56 people were transported from Mongpiang to Mongton in 8 four-wheelers and taken to Namhookhun, a village 5 km east of Poongpakhem, near BP-1.

They needed to be in time for this year's poppy-planting season, said the source.
