Forced outing planned for Kengtawng

Forced outing planned for Kengtawng's youth

200 youth, aged between 15-40, will be required to make a guided tour of Rangoon, its factories, the Shwedagon and the seaside coming November, according to Col Khin Maung Myint, area commander of Kengtawng, 150 miles east of Taunggyi.

Members of the pilgrimage will receive 8,500 kyat as well as a new suit of clothing each.

The Burma army had started the tour program for Kengtawng residents soon after the International Labor Organization's inquiry last year over the killings of 7 people who had filed complaint about continue forced labor.

"Last year elderly people were called for to go on the excursion trip and many went unwillingly, because they did not want to leave their farms", recalled a source.
