Porters' lives in peril due to kill all order
A report from central Shan State that reached S.H.A.N. yesterday said at least 20 Shan people were in danger of losing their lives because of recent directive issued by the area commander.
According to the report, Col San Htun, commander for the units in Kunhing Township had circulated an order that all civilians found outside the vicinity of their communities be executed.
However, on 17 June, a 70-strong column from Battalion 296 that was patrolling in Kenglom, instead of killing the 20 villagers it came across, had only detained them to carry supplies for them. "They have arrived in Kali (between Kunhing and Takaw, the Salween crossing) today (17 June)," said the source. "And nobody knows what the area commander is going to say."
According to the Shan State Army, its 759th Brigade, commanded by Maj Khamleng, had 8 clashes with Burmese troops, between 1 May - 12 June, killing 9 and wounded 16.
