Junta makes free use of villagers' tractors

On 4 February 2008, Infantry Battalion 65, commanded by the Lt-Col Kyaw Myint Than at Na Kawng Moo ordered tractor and truck owners to hold a meeting at the village headman's house. During the meeting he said, “The trucks and the tractors will stay under my control. I will use them when I need. And if I need a car to Mong Jawd or elsewhere, and you have to arrange for me”.
 
There were 30 policemen, 15 militiamen and 30 fire fighters who participated in the meeting. “From today, people in Na Kawng Moo have to build the fence around their village to monitor who enter and leave the village day and night.  Everyone has to report to the security when they travel in and out of the village”, Kyaw Myint Than added.
 
Beginning March 2008, every house which stands along the main road from Na Kawng Moo to Mong Ton is to paint its fences using white color lime paint. Every village such as Meken, Mong Hang, Wan Mai Mu Hser, Loi Nam Hoe Pa Koi, Wan Hke, Kokang, Mong Hang, Na Kawng Moo and Kung Sa villages up to the town of Mong Ton, has to follow the order, according to source.
 
About 700 Wa households in Na Kawng Moo village tract, Pong Pa Khem sub-township in Mong Ton Township, however are not forced to paint or volunteer.  The place is under the leadership of Wei Xuegang from United Wa State Army (UWSA), who is wanted in Thailand and US on drug charges.
