Regarding your article on Hkun Tun Oo's visit to Bangkok for medical check-up:

Dear Shan Herald,

this is the first time I am writing to you, but I am regularly reading your news at least since 2009. It has motivated me to learn a lot about Shan history (and the history of the other minorities in Burma/Myanmar). When I started reading Your news I did not know Hkun Tun Oo's name, or who he is. But I know now: he is the nephew (by marriage) of Inge Sargent, who became Mahadevi of Hsipaw in the 1950's, and a widow with two small children when the military seized power in 1962.

At that time I was a young Western girl living in Burma since 1959, and very much in love with the country. But so many things have happened ... difficult things, painful things, - a life time of troubles - many almost unbelievable, and most quite unknown to the general public, because restrictions on the media were so effective, and fear kept people timid. I am a "senior citizen" now, about 18 months older than U Hkun Oo, and had a medical check up in Bangkok about 18 months ago for complaints, that sound similar to his.

As I look at his picture and consider his life, my mind goes out to him blessing the fact that he came out of all these tribulations alive:

I WISH HE WILL RECOVER AND PRESERVE HIS HEALTH AND ENERGY.
THE SHANS AND OTHER MINORITIES IN BURMA/MYANMAR STILL NEED HIM.
This wasteful and stupid destruction of human lives and natural resources in the Union of Burma/Myanmar for the personal gain of a handful of individuals at the top has to STOP.
The people living in Burma deserve to be happy and prosperous, all of them, not just a few.

I wish You success.
May there be peace, real peace, and satisfaction, safety, a chance for all.
