Burma to re-open Mongla’s border gate with China soon

Burma government has made a plan to re-open border gate at Mongla, Eastern Shan State at China border with aim of improving the country’s regional economic development, a government official said.

The announcement came after the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA) or Mongla group has requested to the government and also it is aiming to development the economy in Kengtung.

Mongla to be reopened for tourists from Thailand

Tourists coming from Thailand will soon be able to travel to Mongla on the Sino-Burmese border through the Maesai-Tachilek checkpoint, according to sources close to the Mongla leadership.

Mongla is roughly 240 km from Maesai. Tourism to Mongla, also known as Burma’s Las Vegas, was closed following tensions generated by Naypyitaw’s demand that all ceasefire groups become Burma Army-run Border Guard Forces (BGFs) in 2009.
