The European Union will push for a new deal to open up Burmese refugee camps, allowing asylum seekers to take up work outside the camps to make them self-reliant and productive members of the Thai community, a top EU envoy says.
The Most Venerable Sobhita, popularly know to Shan/Tai Buddhist devotees as either Sao Sra Sophi or Sao Sra Mwe-daw and to the Burmese devotee as Pinlon Sayadaw, was the lord abbot of the Mangala Mwe-daw Monastery in the historic town of Panglong, Shan State, the Union of Myanmar.

Today’s Mae Sot is a bustling border town, a center for trade, manufacturing, and migration, as people continue to flee Burma, coming to Thailand for work or refuge. While many find such in the nearby refugee camps, primarily housing ethnic Karen refugees, many others live around Mae Sot without official recognition.
