It is interesting to note that the linkage and emergence of the modern Shan State, its national day and the formation of the Union of Burma are so intertwined; it is almost impossible to discuss the making of this historical formation separately.
There are over 31,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in northern Shan State who are in desperate need of food, basic supplies and medicines. Donations for these IDPs can be made through the “Northern Shan State Relief Committee,” based inside Shan State, Burma at the following account:
