Head of Shan Sangha’s cremation ceremony to be held in Panglong

The funeral for the most Venerable Bhaddanta Aggamahapantita Nyanasambhara, 84, will be held from 15-17 February, at Wat Pitaka, at the historic town of Panglong, southern Shan State, according to local sources.

The ceremony will begin at the said monastery with religious incantations will be led by abbots and monks from several towns. The entertainments and traditional plays will be performing too, said an event organizer, Venerable Khemasara.

 “We will bury his body on the third day at 19:00 (Burma Standard Time),” he said.

Photo exhibition and his biography will be displayed for spectators to remind them of his works, he added.

Sao Nyanasambhara passed away on 8 July 2008 at 07:13 (Burma Standard Time) at the Taunggyi hospital. He was a native of Langkher, southern Shan State and was born on 14 October 1924. He was known for his several translations of Pali texts into Shan.

Thousands of people from every township of Shan State but also people from overseas countries have been invited to participate in the event, said sources.
