A three-day festival is due to be held to commemorate the Shan Year that falls on 1 December, according to the lunar calendar, say its organizers.
Speakers on the opening ceremony on the New Year Eve evening of 30 November will include Saengmuang Mangkorn, an official from the Migrant Assistance Program and son of the late resistance leader Sao Noi Saw Yanda (1927-96) and Dr Renu Vichakarn, a Thai expert in Shan culture. The festival will be held at Wat Kutao, near the old stadium north of the moat.
