Ex
Ex-SSA commander passes away
Lt-Col Kamkhurh, former brigade commander of the Shan State Army, took leave of his family and comrades yesterday evening (17:30, 21 March 2003) at his home in Laktaeng, Wianghaeng District, Chiangmai. He was 64.
His last posting was with the defunct Mong Tai Army of Khun Sa as the commander of 273rd Brigade. He was known as a non-nonsense and outspoken officer. Since 1963, the year he joined the resistance, he had served under distinguished Shan leader such as Sao Sengsuk, Chao Tzang Yawnghwe, Col Zarmmoeng, Col Pan Awng, Col Zarmmai, Col Gunjade and Gen Gawnzoeng.
Refusing to surrender along with Khun Sa in 1996, he had chosen to live in exile with his family in Thailand since.
He was married to Nang Poont and had five children.
He is to be cremated tomorrow at 13:00 in Laktaeng, a village that is only a few hundred meters from Pang Maisoong, where a month-long battle between the SSA and the Burma Army took place last year.
