People in Kokang getting fed up with the military's mischiefs
Kokang leaders recently filed a complaint about the Army units operating in Laukkai and Tahsuehtang areas, says NSS, S.H.A.N. source in the north.
The grievances included stealing farm produce, robbing people on market-days, stealing cattle and domestic fowls for food and frictions with the local populace.
As a result, the Military Operations Command-1 in Kutkhai has directed commanders of battalions 936 (Kutkhai) 123 (Mongkol), 290,23 (Hsipaw) and others to go on field inspection trips and "make necessary amends".
Confiscated orchard becomes devious source of income
Recently Lt. Sithu Myat from Company-1, IB 123 seized a-50-acre orange orchard from Lao Tuan of Khomoong Village, Nam Oo Tract in the township of Muse (110 miles north of Lashio).
A few days after, Lao Yong Zan of
Khomoong was fined K. 30,000 when his 3 buffaloes strayed into the
orchard.
On 13 June, another villager, Lao Li was fined K. 10,000 when his
buffalo was found in the said orchard.
Later again on 15 June, Yang San's 5 cows wandered into the same orchard. They returned him one cow, saying the rest just got lost.
Wei gets new home in old home ground
Druglord Wei Hsuehkang together with 500 followers received a 2,000-acre land grant from Gen Khin Nyunt recently. The area is between Nawnghpa and Tangyan (17 miles) in Lashio District.
Wei used to operate in the area when he was serving under Khun Sa, a native of Loimaw, 17 miles further north of Nawnghpa.
