The warehouse near his residence in Kengtung 160km north of Tachilek, is already full with presents from the business sector as well as ceasefire and militia leaders in the area, according to a truck driver from a business company.

Min Aung Hlaing succeeded Maj Gen Khin Zaw, who became Commander of the Mandalay-based Central Region Command, in May 2005. He has been regarded as one of the Burma Army's rising stars.

The Triangle Region Command was established in 1996 with Thein Sein, now Acting Prime Minister, as its first commander.
