Seized cars are Hkun Htun Oo's
The 6 automobiles confiscated by junta authorities on 28 February belonged to Hkun Htun Oo and not to the Overseas Courier Service, according to a family source from the border:
"Hkun Htun Oo had ben a franchisee to the OCS, like many of you in Thailand are with the Mac Donald's, KFCs and Pepsi-Cola's", the source explained in response to S.H.A.N. question as to why some of them were reported bearing OCS labels. "It means he was the owner of the whole OCS operation in Burma. It also means the vehicles might carry OCS logos but all of them belonged to him".
"Of course, they no longer are his anymore," he added, "now that they have taken them away."
S.H.A.N.'s contact at the Chiangmai-based Japanese consulate was not available for comment.
Hkun Htoon Oo, leader of Shan Nationalities League for Democracy since 1989 and country representative of OCS since 1984, was arrested on 9 February for reasons still yet to be spelled out by Rangoon authorities.
The Rangoon OCS office was ordered to close off on 14 February.
