KHUNSA CONFIRMS HIS RESIGNATION AGAIN

KHUNSA CONFIRMS HIS RESIGNATION AGAIN!

Believe it or not, but Khun Sa, in a statement issued on 7 December, has again confirmed his resignation which was announced on 22 November, during a ceremony marking the Shan New Year.

Concerning this matter, S.H.A.N. asked the opinion of the people in Chiangrai Province's Ban Therdthai, the new name conferred by Her Royal Highness Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn to Ban Hintaek, once a stronghold of Khun Sa until 1992 when the Thais attacked him. Most of them are skeptical. "If it's true, we don't think the movement has any place to go except to fall to pieces," says one.

S.H.A.N. also asked Major (now Colonel) Karnyord, the ringleader of the D-Day Mutiny, for his comment. "We need more evidence and actions from the MTA's side to feel sure he's really resigned. A mere statement from him is not enough. Anyone can do the same without really meaning it".

The Abbot of the Visutthi Monastery in Homong is quite aggressive with the members of the Shan State Restoration Council and the National Congress about this matter. He reportedly told the assembly during last Saturday's meeting that "the CEC has better stopped following outsiders' dictates and take immediate steps to reinstate Khun Sa." To which one of the assemblymen replied," Since we didn't demand his resignation and he did it on his own, maybe he can reclaim all his positions without consulting us too."

Politics and politicians can be funny at times.
