Another Shan MP passes away


Hkun Tha Aye a.k.a Hso Hom Merng, 70, succumbed to his prolonged illness this morning at 00:20 at his home in Namkham, 129 miles north of Lashio.

He was born on 13 May 1935 in Khoknam Ward, Hsenwi. Finishing his matriculation in 1958, he enrolled at the Mandalay-based Police Officers Training Academy in 1959. From 1960-1973, he served as a police officer in Lashio and then in Namkham. In 1974, he was elected as Chairman of Namkham township People's Council, an office he held until 1984.

He became a member of the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy in 1988 and was elected as MP of Namkham in 1990.

He had been presented with the Hso Khanfah Award by the Muse Literature and Culture Committee in 2004 for his service to the people.

He is survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters.
