A total of 198 members had participated at the meeting, held 10-14 January, at
the rebel base, opposite Maehongson's Pang Mapha district.

Under the chairmanship of Col Yawdserk, the following decisions were reportedly
taken:
1. Reformation of 14
administrative areas
2. To include people's
representatives at the annual RCSS meeting, as decided at the 5th people’s
assembly on 19 December 2007
3. Re-regulation of timber and
cattle taxes
4. To build up solidarity among
Shan State organizations
5. To consolidate the strength
of the army
6. To resolve political
problems by political means with all groups including the State Peace and
Development Council (SPDC).
The SSA South, as it is popularly known, was formed following the surrender of
the Mong Tai Army (MTA), led by the late Khun Sa, in 1996. It is reportedly the
strongest anti-junta armed resistance movement.
