Junta troops attack SSA today
Junta troops attack SSA today
(Revised)
Sources along the border reported that junta forces attacked a mountain base of Yawdsek's Shan State Army this afternoon (6 November) but were repulsed.
A 100-strong Burmese force (IB 225) charged the SSA's Khunsang Tonhoong base at Loilam (Doidam in Thai), opposite Wianghaeng District of Chiangmai at 13:30 today. It was defended by Capt. Khiaofah a.k.a. Sai Khawng, second-in-command of the Khunsang Tonhoong mobile column. At 13:00 hrs., the attackers retired to their positions to wait for reinforcements that arrived in the evening.
Another charge by 200 attackers, preceded by heavy shelling of the Shan positions, resumed at 19:00 hrs. until 20:00 hrs. when it was repulsed again.
"This is only the first round," said a Burma-watcher. "Now we are receiving reports that LIDs 22, 88 and 99 plus the Eastern Shan State Army of Sai Leun are on their way". (This turned out to be inaccurate).
