Shan military leaders appear to be deliberating over the problem of finding the best way to deal with the entry of Wa troops in the Mongtaw-Monghta area, said an inside source.

"It's sort of like Hobson's choice", said an officer. "If we don't parley with them, we have to fight; and if we do parley, they'll keep pushing in leaving us no room to move around. Either choice will put us squarely into Burmese ploy".

He said he was waiting for instructions from Sao Yawdserk, the Shan State Army's Commander-in-Chief. But he hoped his superior would use a different strategy than deciding to meet the Wa head-on.

"I heard him say once that Wa are merely arrows. They'll keep coming no matter how you deal with them. The trick is to deal with the archer instead of the arrows. My only hope is that he follows his own dictum".

Another source disclosed to S.H.A.N. that the SSA's 727th Brigade, commanded by Tern Khurh, that used to be active in Mongton Township is facing difficulties with his movements, due to increased Wa presence.
