S.H.A.N.'s source at the battlefield, finally contacted by phone, rejected reports about Wa retreat from Holon Hill. He explained that it was only a lull in the battle that confused even most of the newsmen who were on the scene. 

"Not only have they not retreated, it has the likelihood of becoming a drawn out conflict," he said. 

Pressed further, he told S.H.A.N. that Rangoon did not appear to be satisfied with the Thai army's claim that the hill was well inside Thailand. He did not elaborate.
