The raiding force from Brigade 241 commanded by Lt-Gen Khun Jaw and Lt-Col Awng Kham were able to dislodge the defenders from the 3 fire-bases surrounding the Laktaeng Pass, opposite Piangluang of Wianghaeng District. The fight has continued deeper inside.
Casualties from the Shan side have yet to be announced, though one Thai border watcher reported a Second Lieutenant Aung Kyaw from IB 227 (Mongkhark) being wounded.
Shellings by the defenders had killed one villager: Ms Ngern-Awng, 17 (parents: Zai Kerh, Nang Hsa), wounded several and forced the people of Pangkam-kaw, just across the border, to flee. The refugees were transported by Thai army trucks to Muangpawk Village, 8 km inside Thailand.
Sources also reported simultaneous attacks in Khailong, opposite Pang Mahpa District, Maehongson Province, and Loi Htwe opposite Chiangdao District of Chiangmai Province.
Update:
IB 227 was not in the area at the time of the Shan attack. The Burmese casualty was later identified as Lt-Aung Zaw Win from LIB 314.
