Wa clashes with Shan

Flash news

A patrol from the Shan State Army's 727th Brigade commanded by Maj Ternkhurh and active in Mongton township, opposite Chiangmai province, ran into a unit from the United Wa State Army's Battalion 617, Division 171, yesterday at 13:00 near the strategic mountain of Loi Htwe, said an SSA source.

The Shans retreated without suffering any casualty. But the Wa commanded by Ta Htawn, followed the SSA to Htam Hpakhao (White Cliff Cave), opposite Muangna village, Chiangdao district, and shelled the Shan position from 1700-1900, according to Thai intelligence sources. The Shan commander however could not be contacted at the time of this reporting. (14:00)

Division 171 is reported to be commanded by drug fugitive Wei Hsuehkang (pronounced Shawgang by Yunnanese).
