Yesterday morning between 3:15 to 3:35, 4 bombs exploded one by one at the hotel which is located near the bank of the Mekong.

"The first explosion was near the tea shop in the hotel's yard. It broke a shop pillar and the second one exploded in the worker's dormitory. The third bomb exploded under a tree and the last one exploded in the bush near the hotel," said a Mong Phong resident.

After the explosions, SPDC soldiers based in Mong Phong and the police came to the hotel to investigate and then issued 6 pm to 6 am curfew.

"For now, no one is sure which group placed the bombs, but the SPDC has blamed the Shan State Army (SSA). But the hotel is in the controlled by the Burma Army soldiers and also the place is close to the border police station and immigration department. We have never seen the Shan soldiers or any rebel soldiers here before," said a hotel service personnel.

"We don't have the policy of pointless bombing like that. There are lots of armed drug traders in Mong Phong. It is also the holy place (where the famous monk Kruba Boonchoom used to reside) for the people in Shan State. The Army put the blame on SSA because they want people to think of us as terrorists", responded Major Lao Hseng, Deputy General Secretary and Spokesperson for the group.

The explosion in the worker's dormitory was not strong enough and only made a hole about one yard deep, and that no fire burning and no bomb splinters were found.

Mong Phong Paradise hotel has about 1,100 hotel workers and among them 600 are Thai workers and 700 workers are Burmese among whom only 100 are Shan workers, said the resident. The hotel is about one hour drive (with motorbike) from Tachilek.

On February 16, The New Light of Myanmar newspaper, a government mouthpiece informed that there will be more bombings inside the country and the citizens must cooperate with the government in order to expose the enemy, according to Radio Free Asia.

Last year in December, bombs exploded at least 4 times in Lower Burma and the military has established a strong security force around the old capital since.
